Croatia

Croatia is one of six target countries in the BiG>East project. The objective is to promote biogas as renewable energy source and as waste treatment technology. This is achieved by the implementation of training courses for farmers and mobilisation campaigns for decision makers. Dedicated studies on biogas opportunities, policies and barriers in Croatia support this initiative.

For further information on the BiG>East project please download the poster and flyer here.

Biogas Opportunities in Croatia

The BiG>East Consortium is investigating the opportunities for biogas implementation in Croatia. This includes an assessment of the biogas potential in Croatia. The following studies were elaborated in the framework of the BiG>East project:

- Assessment of existing biogas installations in Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Latvia, Romania, and Slovenia

- Technical review of the utilisation of waste material for biogas production in Eastern Europe and Croatia

- Estimation of the potential feedstock availability for biogas production in Eastern Europe and Croatia

- Assessment of the agricultural structure for biogas production in Eastern Europe and Croatia

- Biogas purification and feed-in opportunities in Europe and Croatia

- Technical opportunities for the utilisation of biogas in Eastern Europe and Croatia

- Impact of biogas production in Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Latvia, Romania and Slovenia

- Biogas Potential in Croatia: Summary Report

- Biogas Site Selection Guideline

- Assessment Studies for Specific Biogas Sites in the target region of Croatia

- Biogas Show Case in the target Region of Croatia

- Local Implementation Strategy in Croatia

Policies and Barriers for Biogas in Croatia

Policies are important in order to create a favourable framework for biogas production and use in Croatia. On the other side, there are Barriers which hinder the application of biogas technologies. BiG>East investigated policies and barriers in Croatia:

- Biogas Policies in Croatia

- Biogas Barriers in Croatia

- Biogas Roadmap for Croatia

Biogas Training in Croatia

In the framework of the BiG>East project three training courses for farmers are implemented in Croatia.

Please find here more information on the training course.

Training material as well as a biogas handbook including an economic calculation tool was elaborated and can be downloaded here:

- Biogas Training Handbook

- Excel Calculation Tool for Economic Analysis of Biogas Plants

- Questionnaire for the Evaluation of Biogas Training

- Summary of the Training Courses in Croatia

Mobilisation Campaigns for Decision Makers

In the framework of the BiG>East project two mobilisation campaigns for decision makers are implemented in Croatia.

The first mobilisation campaign in Croatia

Date: Tuesday, 26 February 2008

Time: 8:45-11:30

Venue: EIHP – Energy Institute Hrvoje Pozar, Savska 163, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia

The first activity of the Stakeholder Mobilisation Campaign was implemented in the framework of the BiG>East project on 26 February 2008 in Zagreb, Croatia.

The objective of this Stakeholder Breakfast was to inform interested stakeholders from Croatia about opportunities to produce and to use biogas in Croatia.

Biogas plant manufacturers, planners and consultants gave technical presentations about biogas installations and BiG>East activities.
